A note from Tyler…
Love the great energy you all brought to Tuesday’s rehearsal.
Great work with Africa! It was fun to revisit this song after a few years. Love that chorus!Let’s have a great rehearsal before our one week spring break, the week of March 26th :)
Announcements
Spring Break: There is NO rehearsal Tuesday, March 26th as it’s our Spring Break. We will resume rehearsals Tuesday, April 2nd.
If you have a friend or family member who wants to sing, bring them to our first spring rehearsal April 2nd. We’ll have a few goodies and drinks at the break to help get everyone back in the groove and meet some new faces that will be joining us.
Next Rehearsal - March 19th
We will take a look at the beginning of ‘Mama Don’t Dance’! Jen McMillian (arranger and voice behind all the practice recordings) is away on tour in a show about Linda Ronstadt, so hopefully will have practice recordings ready for Tuesday, but if not, they will be available later in the week. This is going to be a fun one! The sheet music is now in the Members Area. Please print it and have it ready to go for Tuesday.
Find the link to our Members Area home page at the bottom of this newsletter.A good review of Africa. Again, great job with this!
Sing through a ‘mini program’ in concert style.
Here are the song for the mini concert program’:
Hearthache Tonight
Hallelujah
Nine to Five
Lean on Me
Musical Moment
With…..John Candy!
by, Brent Moore
Why John Candy you ask?? It started with our OOTB Social a couple weeks back. For the Bingo party game, one of the squares asked for ‘someone who has been on TV’. Just then, I ran into Diane Levy (one of our baritones) who actually worked on the legendary SCTV comedy show, and even appeared in a few skits on TV! If you haven’t yet met Diane yet, she was up front at the OOTB Social, doing a very fun Drill Sargeant bit, beside her daughter Christine. Tyler calls her Mama D.
Anyways, getting back to SCTV – they had a formidable array of comedy masters, including of course, John Candy. And Diane got to know them all!! How cool is that? Following SCTV, John Candy had many memorable film roles. Perhaps his finest was in Planes, Trains and Automobiles, alongside Steve Martin. This classic clip shows John playing some boogie woogie dashboard piano, and honking a mean sax.
John manages to keep the car on the road. But alas, his cigarette ends up in the back seat, setting the car ablaze. Yet somehow, the hilarity continued! On a very sad note, it was the 30th anniversary of John’s passing on March 4; he is still much beloved.
