Week 23 Newsletter

A note from Tyler…

Hope you’re all enjoying the most lovely Easter weekend. It seems as though Spring might stick around for a little while!

I love Calgary for so many reasons, but my favourite thing about it is how much sun we get : )

Announcements

  • We will start our spring rehearsals this week Tuesday, April 2nd! Looking forward to getting back together and making music! It’s going to be an exciting time as we have a couple more songs to learn and lots of prep as we approach our year end concert June 7th.

Let’s hit the ground running with guns a-blazing and voices soaring :)

Next Rehearsal - April 2nd

  • The practice recordings and sheet music for ‘Mama Don’t Dance’ are now in the Members Area!
Click the ‘Access Members Area’ button on the bottom of this page to go there.
Please print the music out for Tuesday if you have not done so already. It’s going to be a super groovy tune to learn together!

  • We’ll start learning this new song as well as continue to rock other songs in our repertoire.

  • We’ll go over the songs that will be on our concert program!

Congratulations to Ashley & Family
on the birth of Austen!

A note from Ashley…

Austen was born at 3:53pm on Tuesday, March 12th.
He was 5 lbs 3 oz and we call him our Mighty A!

Austen was born with a hole in his heart and will need heart surgery when he is 3-6 months old. We have had some great days and some challenging ones too but are now back home!

Mom has been singing to him and has other parents and nurses in awe with her calm, nurturing nature. Nana (Kathy) has been cuddling babe as much as possible too :)

First Day!

First bath with Nana!

Musical Moment

Playing for Change…on a Higher Ground

by, Brent Moore

I am a huge fan of ‘Playing for Change’.  It is a multimedia music project that started in 2002, and features musicians from across the globe. It’s purpose is to inspire and connect the world through music. Producers record great musicians in various exotic locales, playing the same song, all in key, and in perfect time. Then their segments are collected and fused together into one song. The groove, musicality and locations are quite frankly, AMAZING!!

This week’s tune is ‘Higher Ground’.  It was originally by Stevie Wonder, who not only sang, but also played ALL THE INSTRUMENTS on the recordings. How amazing is that? But this version below is no solo project, not by a long shot.  It features musical heavyweights like blues shouter Shemekia Copeland, banjo legend Bela Fleck, and slide guitar master Robert Randolph.  Plus, many other cool cats in all sorts of wild locations.

Be sure to TURN IT UP!
