A note from Tyler…
It was great to be back with you Tuesday! Again, thank you to Peter for valiantly stepping in last week. It was fun to hear some new musical elements in different songs. Another thank you to the same person for filling in on the piano!
Announcements
June 7th Concert Details
Our promotional material for our concert on June 7th, the Facebook event page, and the link to the Eventbrite page are now live.
As we’ve seen in past concerts, our audiences have consistently exceeded 250. This results from members sharing the event on their personal social media channels and letting our friends and colleagues know that we have an exciting concert coming up! The more we engage and tap into our communities, the bigger the crowd.Extending the May 28th Rehearsal by 15 Mins
We will extend next week’s rehearsal by 15 minutes to take a good break and work on running songs, building up stamina, and getting into a flow of how the overall program will look and feel.
Concert Preparation/Memory
I wanted to make a little note about memory, as I received a few emails from members choosing not to sing in the concert because they don’t feel they can memorize the songs and not be holding music. I will stress that we’re here to learn, grow musically, and have fun singing together. That said, we have three rehearsals (including tonight) to make some great strides. This is why OOTB has practice audio for each part - so members can take the music outside the room and do some work to memorize and lock their part in. However, if you feel this is not an option, please hold your music and participate in the concert as we’re part of a team and every voice matters. The concert is a large part of celebrating music and how far the choir has come this year.
‘Teach Your Children’ Practice Audio
The practice tracks are now available in the Members Area. If you can, it would be great if you could give the Full Choir track a listen and your own before tonight’s rehearsal.
Tonight’s Rehearsal - May 21st
Continue learning ‘Teach Your Children.’ All parts for the ‘acapella’ version of the practice recordings have now been added to the Members Area. As I explained Tuesday, in the ‘acapella’ version uploaded to the Members Area, multi-measure rests indicated in the sheet music are condensed into one-bar rests.
Spend some good time on ‘Africa’ and get really comfortable with it.
Second Half - run songs in succession from memory.
Musical Moment
A Bar Song
By, Brent Moore
Usually, these moments are a blast from the past, but how about something contemporary this time? Because OOTB has many younger members, I suggest we feature somebody NEW. But to do that, I had to ask my daughter for advice :)
She recommended a hot new song by Shaboozey that she says you’ll hear a lot this year during Stampede. The tune made a big jump on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs to No. 1, replacing Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em”. This marks the first time two Black artists have led the chart in back-to-back weeks.
Hope ya’ll enjoy it!
