Week 8 Newsletter
November 4th, 2024
A Message from Tyler…
On their way out Tuesday, a member said to me, that the two hours on rehearsal nights are the shortest two hours of their week. I thought, that’s an extraordinary thing to hear! Part of our mission is to gather, leave our worries at the door, connect and experience learning and singing together!
Thanks for great energy and great focus Tuesday night! We were able to cover a lot of material with precision.
Week Eight Announcements
OOTB Workshop - Saturday, November 23rd, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Here is the Eventbrite page LINK to register for the workshop.
We will emphasize again if you can make this work, how important it will be to solidify moments in our songs for the concert as well as spend some time together building our community and getting to know fellow members of the choir you might not have the opportunity to connect with on a regular Tuesday night.
The food allergy sign-up will be available again on Tuesday at the check-in with Ashley or Christine. If you have dietary restrictions, please let us know what those are.
Remianing Key Dates…
Fall Concert Dress Rehearsal - Tuesday, December 3rd, will be at the concert location, Grace Presbyterian Church, and we will go till 9:30 p.m. which is a half-hour more than what we are used to on a normal rehearsal Tuesday evening.
Fall Concert - So that it is firmly on everyone’s calendars, the Fall Concert is Friday, December 6th, at Grace Presbyterian Church. The itinerary for the evening will closely replicate that of our last two concerts, but we will have more details on this in next week’s newsletter as well as an Eventbrite page where you can direct friends, family, and colleagues to buy tickets and come out and support us.
We will be joined by a guest choir and ensemble: Spirit Choir and Blend Vocal Association, an all-acapella women’s group. It’s going to be a great night of celebrating choral music and singing in our city!
Next Rehearsal - November 5th
‘BELLS OF CHRISTMAS’
Finish up learning the ‘Bells of Christmas’. I love the sounds that we are getting with this. We are capturing the spirit of the bell-like quality and the juxtaposition of the lyrical singing like the ‘Gloria’ section. We will finish learning the end of this piece from ‘Jingle Bells’ bells to the end.
‘WHAT ABOUT US?’ & ‘QUEEN TRIBUTE’
We will review and look at the parts at the end of our PINK song “What About Us?”. This has some real character, some real flavour.
We will also review what we have done on the ‘Queen Tribute’. Fantastic work on this on Tuesday. Your focus and energy brought a good framework for us to dig into what is challenging material. I knew at the beginning of the season, when I issued you this medley, that you would to this challenge and you certainly have!
‘HAVE YOU EVER SEEN THE RAIN?’
We will revisit a song from our first season that we have sung with great success! This time, we’ll have the OOTB band behind us in concert to give the song even more juice :)
The sheet music and audio recordings are now available on the Sheet Music and Audio page of the Members Area HERE. If you’re a returning member who sang this with us before, please bring your music (or print a new copy). New members can find and access the music and audio there as well.
A look ahead to WEEK 9…
We’ll begin learning our final song this fall, the great Ben E. King classic, ‘Stand by Me’ This will be fun one to learn together!
